The work of Jorge Méndez Blake can be defined as an intersection between architecture, literature and sculpture. He takes references from diverse cultural environments with the attempt to create previously non-existing connections between literature and architecture. Blake’s work creates non-linear systems of ideas that begin with literature, classics, architectural history and other diverse fiction. He manipulates classic literature by drawing it into the gallery space, assembling pages and quotation into installations, or “cancelling” texts by physically entombing them in large wooden boxes. Blake also forms textual chains with works that link the literature of travel and pilgrimage with photographs taken on his travels.
